removing account

Thu Aug 28, 2008, 6:54 AM
Over the next while I'll be slowly deleting all my deviations and lastly my account. DeviantART isn't somewhere I visit on the internet anymore. I don't find it necessary to show off my photography much these days and honestly I don't really do much of it anymore.

Grad school is pretty much my life. Reading the books, writing the papers, enjoying that sort of life immensely.

I've also found photography a bit of a bastard art and would rather focus on my painting or drawing. (I've not painted anything in nine months, though I while be taking a class in a few weeks.) However, in the long run I'd rather concentrate on my writing.

Also, DeviantART isn't what I joined in its infancy. Not much goodness that I've found, no criticism, just people looking for praises they don't deserve. The internet seems more and more a desperate haven of attention seekers. Addiction to social networks, Flickr, Twitter, message boards where they talk about mainly ridiculous things, blogs. Most people really don't live much in the way of lives where they need to broadcast things to the world, they'd do much better entrusting such information to their friends and developing real relationships they can touch and feel and converse with in person. Few people have opinions even worth considering as they're not basing them on much of anything of substance. More and more I find that people today are on a "joyless quest for joy."

Goodbye. Thanks for the good comments. Keep making art for yourself, being a true creator.

-Nathaniel
